Duffy Books Term 3

Today is our last day for term 3. To start off the day, we went to the hall to get our Duffy Books. Once we got back into class, we spent a good 15 minutes reading our new books. It is such a privilege for Avonhead Rotary to support us with these books, and we are very thankful.

I got 2 books, both based of wars in Germany with the Nazi’s. They seem super interesting and I cannot wait to read them. Uprising by Jennifer A. Nielsen is based on a true story from when the Nazi’s invade her homeland, and Heroes by Alan Gratz is based off the war in Pearl Harbour.

Thank you again, Avonhead Rotary for these Duffy Books.

Gratitude

At NBC, we have been looking at Gratitude as our virtue focus. Gratitude is a very important virtue and is a really good way to help kids appreciate things more. In Room 9, we have been looking at things we are grateful for.

For the past week, we have been making a google drawing filled with what we are grateful for, as well as including why. I really enjoyed this activity because it helped me realize how much stuff I have, even the little things. Next time, I would have added more stuff since there wasn’t too much stuff.

Forgiving – Murutanga

At NBC our Virtue Focus for the past 2 weeks has been Forgiving – Murutanga. Forgiving is a very important virtue to know, as well as a very good virtue to put into practice. Forgiveness helps us move on and accept eachother for our wrongs.

For the past week, we have been creating a big art piece to represent forgiving. Nevaeh, Izzy and I created a really nice sunset with the word ‘Forgiveness’ in the sand, as well as 3 hearts underneath the words.

I really enjoyed this activity because it was very fun to experiment with the pastels and the blending. We all had a lot of fun, but we got very dirty with pastel on our shirts and hands. In the end, our artwork turned our really nice.

What would you do for your forgiveness art?

Story of the Snack

This past week in Room 9, our focus for reading has been an agency activity based on a short story called Snack Attack. It is a 4 minute video about a story of a young man and an old woman, fighting over a pack of cookies. For today’s activity, we had to finish a comic putting images of the video into the right order. Once we had it in the right order, we had to put speech bubbles onto each of the images. This way, we could use our imagination and infer what we think they were thinking.

This activity was really fun, especially when we got to watch the video. I really liked how the man still gave her some cookies, even when he knew the cookies were his. I didn’t like how most of the photos looked similar or just about identical to other photos. It really added to the struggle of the activity.

Have you watched this video? Did you enjoy it? Why/Why not?
