WALT: Understand the story of Jonah

 

In Room 2 we have been working on the story, Jonah and the Whale. I really enjoyed hanging out with my friends and trying out a new character.

 

At NBC we are focusing on the July Home learning for the school. There are heaps of tasks to do and they all give points. For my task I chose to do the fabulous Ferns one. We had to learn about the Fern and what it is.

One of the most common plants found in New Zealand is the fern.

It is a special, iconic symbol of New Zealand. You will find pictures of ferns on the jerseys of many famous sporting teams, including the New Zealand All Blacks.

Here are 3 teams from NZ that have fern in their title:

My favorite uniform would probably be the Black Ferns one because it is very neat and clean.

At NBC we are focusing on the July Home learning for the school. There are heaps of tasks to do and they all give points. For my task I chose to do the Woman Rights one. For this one we had t look at other famous women instead of Kate Sheppard to be put on the 10 dollar bill.

I chose Florence Nightingale for this reason;

often known as ‘The Lady With The Lamp’ Florence Nightingale was a caring nurse and leader.

In addition to writing over 150 books, pamphlets and reports on health related issues, she is also credited with creating one of the first versions of the pie chart. She also saved many lives and this is why I think she should be on the 10 dollar note instead.

At NBC we are focusing on the July Home learning for the school. There are heaps of tasks to do and they all give points. For my task I chose to pick the Punakaiki Rocks and learn about them. The task was originally to add our favorite food, which I will do but for now I am giving my information about the Punakaiki Rocks.

The Punakaiki Rocks were formed around 30 million years ago by miniature fragments of dead marine creatures and plants that landed on the seabed about 2 km below the surface.

Immense water pressure caused the fragments to solidify in hard and soft layers.

Here is also my favorite food!

My favorite food is cake.

Personally, I like sponge cake, and here is a recipe for it if you are interested! 🙂

Ingredients

• 225g softened butter
• 225g golden caster sugar
• 4 large eggs
• ½ lemon, zested
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 225g self-raising flour
• splash of milk
• Optional fillings of lemon curd, jam, lightly whipped cream
• icing sugar for dusting

Method

• STEP 1

  Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4, butter and line the base of two 20cm spring-form cake tins with baking parchment.

• STEP 2

  Using an electric whisk beat the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy. Crack the eggs in one at a time and whisk well, scraping down the sides of the bowl after each addition. Add the lemon zest, vanilla, flour, milk and a pinch of salt. Whisk until just combined then divide the mixture between the two tins.

• STEP 3

  Bake in the centre of the oven for 25-30 mins until a skewer inserted into the middle of each cake comes out clean. After 10 mins remove the cakes from their tins and leave to cool completely on a wire rack. Fill how you like. My personal favourite is a good dollop of lemon curd and some fresh cream, then dust the top with icing sugar. Will keep for 3 days.

First we had to look at some monsters in the book Fantastic beasts and then make our own. This is mine and I even added all the features.

 

 

At NBC we are focusing on the July Home learning for the school. There is heaps of tasks to do and they all give points. My task I chose to pick the WWF activity. We had to watch videos about them saving the animals and what they do save them.

I chose to watch the one about them saving freshwater seals left. There are only 670 left in the world and they are very endangered. They build snow banks for them so that they can protect their babies when they are born. Its going pretty good and now they are trying to stop climate change.

 

In Room 2 we have been focusing on Jesus miracles. We have had weeks to do this and it was such a fun journey. Here is our video. Overall it was such a fun activity, especially with my friends! If you have questions about it please let us know so we can improve next time!
