Muhammad Ali

WALT: Identify character strengths in inspirational people.

In Room 9/10, we started to learn about character strengths in inspirational people. We watched a short video about different people who had a big impact on the world and what character strengths they used. For example, Muhammad Ali used bravery and strength during his fights with others.

I teamed up with my friend Quinn for this activity. We took a deeper dive into the history of Muhammad Ali and what he did before his death. We found some pretty cool facts and discovered some strong character strengths.

What do you think? Who would you pick to learn about?

Resilience – Celebration of Learning Art Piece

In Room 9/10, we have been working really hard to create art pieces for the ‘Resilience – Celebration of Learning’ event coming up on September 14, 2023. Everyone here at NBC has made an art piece for this show, and all together we will be displaying around 250 art pieces for Thursday.

In our class, we have made Animal Collages. This art piece took a pretty fair amount of time, but I am really proud that I have finished my art piece. I haven’t completely finished gluing on the eyes and nose, but I have done most of it.

Once I have a photo of the completed art piece, I will add it onto my Reflection Slide below.

This slide contains my ideas, thoughts and steps on this art journey.

What do you think? What animal would you do and why? Would you enjoy doing this?

Election DLO

In Room 9/10, we have been learning about the elections. The election is coming up in October, and we have decided to take a deeper dive into what the election is and why it is important.

For this activity, I worked with Quinn and we made a slideshow all about the different leaders and the parties. I found it really interesting to research all about the different leaders, and what their goals were for NZ.

What do you think? What is your favourite party? If you could vote, who would you vote for?

Colours in Te Reo

In Room 9/10. we have made a google drawing about colours in Te Reo. I really enjoyed researching and finding examples of the colours, but my favourite part was when I got to make a drawing on Sumo Paint. I picked 8 colours and made a really cool drawing, and then I labled all the colours in Te Reo.

I think if I ever did this again, I would spend more time on choosing some more unique examples of the coloured items. For red, I did an apple, but I think I could’ve done something cool like tomato soup.

Here is my DLO of the colours.

What do you think? What would you do for the photo? What is your favourite colour?

My Cathedral for Christchurch – Minecraft Edition

In Room 9/10, we have been focusing on making a Cathedral for Christchurch, but in Minecraft. Basically, we looked at the old Cathedral and took inspiration from it. We also learned all about the different rooms and certain parts we needed to add into it.

I really enjoyed doing this because I got to express my creativity and go to try something new. I have never done this before, so I found it quite interesting. I named my church after Saint Joseph, who is the Patron Saint of churches. I kept a colour scheme in different rooms, and tried to keep everything simple.

What colour scheme would you use? What would you put?

Escape Mt Vesuvius – In the eyes of a Pompeii Citizen

WALT: Write an imaginative recount.

In Room 9/10, we have been focusing on 2 things for reading. Some groups have been learning about King Tutankhamen and others have been learning about the Mt Vesuvius eruption. I was learning about King Tutankhamen, but when it came to writing we could pick which one we wanted to write about. I wanted to learn something new,  so I picked Mt Vesuvius.

I put it in perspective of a girl called Amelia, who had a journal. She journalled the days following up to the eruption, and her experience when Mt Vesuvius erupted.

Here is my story:

What do you think? What would you pick if you had the option between the 2?

Emperor Nero DLO

In Room 9/10, we have been learning a whole bunch about Ancient Rome and its rulers. Most of the rulers we are looking at are Christian, but we have also been taking a close look at Emperor Nero. Nero was a ruler a long time ago (54 – 68 A.D) and is very well known, ut for a bad reason.

See, Nero had a really big ego, and always thought about himself. An example of this is the big Roman Fire in 64 A.D, and he watched his own town burn while he was on top of a mountain.

Here is the DLO I made.

What do you think about Emperor Nero and his life? Why do you think he was so cruel? What is something new you learned reading the DLO?

Claude Monet – Water Lillies Recreation

In Room 9/10, we have been looking at Claude Monet and his art, but we have been focusing more on a more famous piece ‘Water Lillies and the Japanese Bridge’. This was an awesome piece of art to look at, and it was really interesting.

For this art piece, we used oil pastels to add colour, and we used tissues to blend. Some of us used our fingers, but most of us used tissues. We also used a white pastel to soften colours and details.

This is what it looks like, what do you think?

Winter Journey Activity

In room 9/10, we have started the Winter journey. It is a lot like the Summer Learning Journey, but it has 20 activities and you just have to pick one. I really enjoyed this and I picked activity 18.

For activity 18, we had to make a winter poem. Here it is!

What do you think of it? Why do you think that? What would you put in your one?

Raymond Bishop DLO

Today at our school we had Raymond Bishop come pay a visit for us for Duffy.

He talked about how he was very inspired by music when he was little. He told us that he wrote his first song when he was 5! Talking about songs, we got told by him that he has written many songs, but my personal favourite would be ‘Nothing is impossible” which was written for Jonah Lomu.

I was very inspired by him and how he loved reading. My favourite part of his visit would be when he sang for us. It was so beautiful and his notes were crystal clear.

This is a DLO I made about him:

What is your favourite song by him and why?
