Influence of Social Media

WALT: Learn about relationships and social medias effects.

This term in room 9/10, we have been looking at relationships and sexuality. One of our main focuses has been social media and our relationships on it. This activity is all about the effects of social media and how it takes a toll on children. We had to make an argument on why/why not children should be able to have access to social media.

My friend, Ieasha worked with me on this argument. We used an image to help prompt us, and the image shows a father asking her daughter how her day went, and she replies with ‘You can look on my facebook!’

Do you agree or disagree?

Kate Sheppard

WALT: Take a look into important historical figures

In Room 9/10, we have been looking at Kate Sheppard.  Kate Sheppard was the reason us women can vote! In 1893, she made a petition called the ‘Womens Suffrage’. It was signed by 31,972 women! It was such a great achievement.

I really enjoyed this activity because I got to learn new things. It was also great to do research and be able to create a really cool slideshow. Next time, I think I would try find more information for the timeline and maybe work with a partner.

Here is my slideshow; (be sure to look at the cool animations)

Have you ever heard of Kate Sheppard before?

Fake News!

In Room 9/10, we have been looking at Quality of Media for Cybersmart.

One of the things we had to do was create a fake news article with our own URL.  I paired up with my friend Kyan for this activity.

I really enjoyed this activity because I got to use my imagination on this. It was super funny being able to create our own images and make super funny stories. My favourite part of this activity was working with my friend and sharing our ideas.

What do you think? What would your story be?

Daniel and Noah – The Old Testament

This Friday we have been looking at the Old Testament and how people showed faith in their problems. I chose Daniel, but my buddy Quinn chose Noah. Some examples could be David and how he defeated Goliath. How did he do that He did that because of his faith he had with God.

Faith to me is when I can trust God with my actions and my words. I know that God can hear and protect me no matter what. I love how he can always forgive people. Faith for Daniel would be praying to him and I think he would have known that God was going to protect him. This is because he was found innocent in God’s mind!

I loved this activity because it made me think about how important faith is and why we need to trust him.

Here is the activity:

Who would you pick? How important is faith to you?

Good and Bad decisions / Your conscience

  • W.A.L.T
    • Understand what conscience is and how this influences our choices
    • Recognise choices in different situations

————————————————————————————————————

In Room 9, we have been taking a dive into our conscience and learning about what it means. We have looked at many videos and texts to give us examples of what it is and how we can use it in our everyday life.

Our conscience is known as the ‘Devil and Angel’ and it helps us decide between right and wrong choices. A good example of this is the Good Samaritan story, which is what we have been looking at.

We had to look at the 3 people who walked past the Jew and try to find out what their conscience was saying

Here is the activity:

Choices online

In Room 9/10, we have been looking at our digital footprint and our social media. We have been watching videos about how our choices on the internet can affect others and their view of you.

It made me think about all the posts people put up and how it impacts people around them. We had to make a DLO about 3 things we have taken away from the video.

I really liked this activity because I think it was a good way to spread awareness about people and how important it is to be kind to others, be mindful about your posts, notice when something is wrong and what to report.

Here is my DLO:

Muhammad Ali

WALT: Identify character strengths in inspirational people.

In Room 9/10, we started to learn about character strengths in inspirational people. We watched a short video about different people who had a big impact on the world and what character strengths they used. For example, Muhammad Ali used bravery and strength during his fights with others.

I teamed up with my friend Quinn for this activity. We took a deeper dive into the history of Muhammad Ali and what he did before his death. We found some pretty cool facts and discovered some strong character strengths.

What do you think? Who would you pick to learn about?

Resilience – Celebration of Learning Art Piece

In Room 9/10, we have been working really hard to create art pieces for the ‘Resilience – Celebration of Learning’ event coming up on September 14, 2023. Everyone here at NBC has made an art piece for this show, and all together we will be displaying around 250 art pieces for Thursday.

In our class, we have made Animal Collages. This art piece took a pretty fair amount of time, but I am really proud that I have finished my art piece. I haven’t completely finished gluing on the eyes and nose, but I have done most of it.

Once I have a photo of the completed art piece, I will add it onto my Reflection Slide below.

This slide contains my ideas, thoughts and steps on this art journey.

What do you think? What animal would you do and why? Would you enjoy doing this?

Election DLO

In Room 9/10, we have been learning about the elections. The election is coming up in October, and we have decided to take a deeper dive into what the election is and why it is important.

For this activity, I worked with Quinn and we made a slideshow all about the different leaders and the parties. I found it really interesting to research all about the different leaders, and what their goals were for NZ.

What do you think? What is your favourite party? If you could vote, who would you vote for?

Colours in Te Reo

In Room 9/10. we have made a google drawing about colours in Te Reo. I really enjoyed researching and finding examples of the colours, but my favourite part was when I got to make a drawing on Sumo Paint. I picked 8 colours and made a really cool drawing, and then I labled all the colours in Te Reo.

I think if I ever did this again, I would spend more time on choosing some more unique examples of the coloured items. For red, I did an apple, but I think I could’ve done something cool like tomato soup.

Here is my DLO of the colours.

What do you think? What would you do for the photo? What is your favourite colour?
