The 5 candles of advent – The lead up to Christmas

WALT: Learn about the 5 candles of advent

In Room 2, we have been focusing to the lead up to Christmas – Nativity. Part of this activity was to make a slide about what the candles mean and what they represent. I did this with my bestie Eva! We had lots of fun doing this activity because we could be creative and decorate the slides and learn about the candles.

Cameron The Crab – Free Write

WALT: Write for a good period of time

On Monday, I got to do free write. I decided to do a narrative so that I could use my imagination. I named it Cameron The Crab. I really enjoyed doing this because I got to have a lot of fun experimenting new things.

In the end, I came up with this:

Cameron the Crab

What would you write about if you had free write? 🦀

Social Media for God

WALT: Infer by drawing on several related pieces of information in the text.

In Room 10, we have been doing our Advent hotspot. One of our activities was to pick a religious character and make a social media profile for them in ‘Facebethlehem’ I chose God, and I decided to put a little humour into it for fun 🙂

Who would you pick if you could do it??

Rodents in NZ – Explanation

In Room 10 we have been focusing on Explanations. I did one about Rodents! I find that this activity was really fun because I got to research about Rodents. It was really cool.

Have you ever done an explanation?

Have you ever seen a rat in NZ? Do you know that they were actually introduced and are not native to NZ? Rodents are a very big threat to our native animals and we need to start doing something about it.

Rodents have teeth called incisors that never stop growing! They need to grind and gnaw things to prevent their teeth from growing into their skull. A type of rodent called the kangaroo rat can live its 10-year lifespan without any water! Lots of rats actually live in several dozens. Usually they are led by a dominant rat, the Queen.

Most rodents leave behind unsanitary things such as faeces, urine, fur and other remains where they live and eat. Mice are a big threat to our native species because they tend to fight/compete for food. Other species tend to tear and chew through plastic, cloth, wood, paper and insulation.

Rats were introduced by the UK/English Settlers. They were brought by them as pets so they had company. They also brought dogs to hunt with which has caused damage in our native animals

To help control rodents, we can take away food sources, water sources ect. We can  thoroughly clean areas for the least likelihood of spreading diseases. Dispose garbage frequently.

Overall rodents aren’t as bad as they seem, but they can be a huge threat. Some people even have them as pets!

NBC Book Character Day

At NBC we are having a book character day today. Earlier at 9am, we had a parade. People with the most creative costumes won some books!

I was Cruella with my bestie, Carys. She was a Dalmatian. Our characters are from the book 101 Dalmatians. I chose this costume/character because I think that Cruella was a creative costume. I had so much fun at the parade.

If you ever had a book day, who were you?

My learning this week – Friday Re-cap

Today Miss Pownall, our teacher has assigned us tasks to do. One of the tasks on the list was to talk about our learning this week. I really like this task because I am able to share my learning on the internet.

  1. At the start of this week we were introduced to 2 things, The Agency Activity (AA) and the Week 2 Maths Revision. We have been working on these through-out the week.
  2. We were also introduced into surface features and writing
  3. For my agency activity, I did a recycling poster
  4. I have had choir practices and it was really fun to be able to practice all of them

There is my week. Is there anything you would/would not do?

The Life of Suzanne Aubert – Saint comic

In Room 2 we have been focusing on saints, because next week there will be All Saints Day. For this activity we had to pick a saint to learn about. I chose Suzanne Aubert. I made a short comic about what she did before she died. I really liked this activity because I was able to learn about a saint and got to express my creativity by making the comic.

I am aware you can’t read the texts, but what she did is she sailed to NZ to help the Maori Pakeha people and took care of 72 children/kids in need.

Who’s your favourite saint?

Advert Learning – Cereal

WALT: Think critically and support ideas with data and opinion:

In Room 10 we have been focusing on adverts, specifically cereal ones. We got to make our own cereal and I loved it! My imagination really helped me with this and it was such a creative, cool idea.

I named my cereal Sunshine Macaroni. I was originally going to go with Cinnamon Crunch, but I found that Sunshine Macaroni could have more excitement in the box.

Here is my cereal ad:

I chose Dua Lipa, who would you have chosen?

Captain Compassion – R.E

WALT: Understand Sacraments

For our activity, my friend Eva and I made a superhero. This superhero shows a kind virtue that makes people feel good. We named our superhero Captain Compassion. Our favourite part of this activity would be that we got to use our imagination to be able to make a cool superhero.

I hope that you like our superhero!

What’s your favourite superhero?

My Free Write – Pobble 365

In Room 2 we have been able to do free writing because our Room 10 teacher is not here today! 🙁

To inspire my writing, I used a site called Pobble 365. If you go to Pobble 365, there is a photo for every day. These photos give you ideas to make a story. Lets say there was fish falling out of the sky. There would be a story starter and ideas to help start your story. 😍

For my story, I used a photo with black umbrellas, but in the middle of the photo there was a red one. ☂ I found this really cool because I had such a good idea for the reference.

Here is my story! 🤩
